We all have those moments. Moments of doubt, of questioning. “Why doesn’t God just show Himself? Why doesn’t He slam open the door and say, ‘Hey, it’s me!’?” We crave the dramatic. We want fireworks, burning bushes, angels appearing in front of us. But that’s rarely how God operates. He’s more subtle, more… artistic.
God’s Artistry in Creation
The intricate design of a snowflake, the vastness of the cosmos, the symphony of a bird’s song – these are not accidents. They are a testament to God’s artistry, a constant reminder of His awe-inspiring power and creativity. As Psalm 19:1 declares, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
Finding God in the Everyday
But God’s presence isn’t confined to the grand spectacles. He reveals Himself in the quiet moments too. The kindness of a stranger, the comfort of a friend, the laughter of your children – these are all glimpses of God’s love at work. “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Trust Over Sight
Imagine a parent playing hide-and-seek with their child. The child might cry out, “Where are you, Daddy?” But the parent doesn’t just shout back, “Here I am!” They enjoy the game, the anticipation, the thrill of the chase.
Similarly, God desires a deeper relationship with us, a relationship built on trust and faith. If He constantly intervened with dramatic displays of power, where would be the room for faith, for choice, for genuine love? “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Jesus: The Ultimate Revelation
And let’s not forget the ultimate revelation: Jesus Christ. God became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). He walked this earth, lived among us, and showed us the true face of God – love, compassion, and sacrifice. Jesus is the living embodiment of God’s love and grace.
Choosing to Believe
So, is God hiding? I don’t think so. I think He’s inviting us into a deeper relationship, a dance of faith where we learn to see Him in the ordinary, to trust Him in the unknown.
It’s not about demanding proof; it’s about choosing to believe. It’s about opening your eyes, your ears, your heart, and allowing yourself to be surprised by His presence in the everyday.
